Hey there everyone. I know I usually give you a run down of things and then sort of explain my title, but i thought today should be different. I was talking with one of my fellow missionaries Aubrey, and she told me about this awesome movement called I AM SECOND. It is basically a christ sharing opportunity that is practiced through the sharing of ones own priorities. GOD IS FIRST.we are second. I am so happy she shared this movement with me and I really hope to become an advocate in the near future.
ONWARD. So im really sorry i didnt post last night, but the wifi here at the church was down. But, here I am now so no need to worry. Yesterday and today alike started the same! The team got up and went over to the radio station KICY to do on air devotionals. This church does it once every other week but there was an opening so we did it two days in a row. It was pretty awesome having this opportunity seeing that i have radio experience, but it was a way different yet magnificent happening to be able to share the word on air!
After that some of us went down to the beach to play with some kids from the Childrens home. I actually didnt get to play with them because i had to leave early to make it to summercise and summer lunch. But, i did get to interact with a little girl on the beach later on last night, but ill get there in a moment. So i went to summercise, and it was great. We planted spinach in the fardening class, and ate fruit and i tried purple potatoes. It was pretty delicious. Something that i want to share from yesterday is a conversation i had with the youngest girl in my class Gabriella. She is just barley 7, and she is really little and just not as mature as everyone else, but she is so loving and has a huge heart. She came into class yesterday and was crying really hard. I asked her what was wrong and she said, "It My best friend told me she hated me. I try to be very nice to everyone but nobody is nice to me back."
It about tore my heart out. I loved on that little girl, and just showed her attention and by the end of class she was back to interacting with the other kids. Even though it was so hard to hear her say it, it was almost beautiful to hear and feel the expression of compassion coming from a 7 year old. She insists on being loving even though others were not toward her. Praise be to God <3
After summercise, we had bible study that was led beautifully by Kayla!! :) it was about not showing favoritism, and about how we should constantly be the good sumaritan.
Finally my eonderful day ended with Midnight sea glass collecting and fishing....because it was really warm last night and obviously bright outside, so why not. It was so awesome to be able to do that! While on the beach, i met a little girl named Kaylee, and she helped me find sea glass. She is from Nome and is only like 5, and ahe looked real sad and lonesome because the adults she was with didnt wanna be at the water, but she just shined bright when I asked her to help me. She was so excited and ao sweet!!
Yesterday was incredible, and God is doing some amazing things here in Nome through my team and I and through this church. Lives are being touch! Praise Jesus, and I lift His name on high for all of the Love he is willing to offer! Miss and love you all!<3
Hey, Emmett! You may have already seen the site, but if not, check out http://www.iamsecond.com. Some of the stories are fantastic (Jason Castro is probably one of my favorite. Musician. Go figure.) My church is doing a group emphasis on precisely this, so it's cool that it's up there, too!
ReplyDeleteAm enjoying reading about your encounters with the people up there, particularly the kids. It's no shock to me at all that they're drawn to you.
